Image of THE SERFS S/T 7" EP

Continuing a fine lineage of Ohio based punk, we see the return of The Serfs, a group who’ve swung heads over the last couple of years with their fine breed of outsider synth punk. Market Square are proud to bring to public awareness three brand-new tracks from the dark recesses of the Cincinnati groups’ minds - a warped mix of blistering DIY punk and dystopic synth-punk outsiderism. The EP is essentially formed of two sides. The A-Side featuring two short-sharp attacks coming on like a long-lost Dangerhouse release and the B-side which has an eerie atmosphere akin to Martin Hannetts’ Factory Records productions. Although both sides are influenced by the seminal sounds from punk history the songs on this 7” EP are thoroughly modern and contemporary with a lyrical glance at the human psyche and very much raging against the standard mundane norms of our time, with titles such as Angelic Ritualistic Cruelty, Dissection and the hypnotic flip Debt World The Serfs paint a musical landscape akin to some J.G Ballard novel whilst likely also very inspired by their own Ohio surroundings. The EP rates as being one of contemporary punks' shining lights of 2021, there is no false pretence with The Serfs; they’re the real deal.
